Hollywood Primary First Hands Up Survey Part 2

This story is related to Hands up survey

For more information on how to do this, click here

Further to our previous post regarding Hollywood Primary's First Hands Up Survey conducted in week 10 of Term 1, I thought it would be useful to include some more information about how and who conducted the survey, and lessons learnt/ reflections on the experience for future survey purposes.

The survey was conducted by members of the year 6 leadership team. The leadership cohort currently has 4 rotating roles: Business and Enterprise, STEAM, Sustainability and Sports/Faction Leaders. Given the eagerness and great leadership qualities exhibited by the current year 6 cohort, it was considered appropriate that in the future the Business and Enterprise and Sustainability teams take an active (ongoing) role in promoting Hollywood Primary as Your Move school.

Activities suitable for the leadership teams (in addition to the survey) include, blogging the Your Move experience on the Your Move website and in the school's eNews and updating the school on progress with the Your Move Program at each school assembly.

With a very busy start to 2019, the first Hands Up survey was carried out by a small number of year 6 leaders and later entered into the Your Move system. As the survey was carried out in week 10 of Term 1, and with the school holidays looming there were a number of children away from the school on the day of the survey, lowering the response rate.

When the school repeats the experience in Term 4 or in future years, it will conduct the survey earlier in the term which will hopefully increase the survey response rate. The need to conduct the survey over two days to ensure both Kindergarten groups were captured would also ensure a higher response rate.

Despite these limitations, the survey carried out in week 10 of Term 1 2019 proved an interesting (and informative) base line of Hollywood's current mode of transport picture.

Hollywood Ride2School Day 2019 - Part 2

Further to our previous post regarding the very successful Ride2School day (including decorating your bike/scooter competition and free healthy breakfast) held at Hollywood Primary on March 21, the huge student and family turnout and happy and healthy energy created by the event is nicely captured in the attached video. Well done Hollywood Primary.

Hollywood Primary Your Move First Post

This story is related to Write your first story

For more information on how to do this, click here

Hi my name is Kristen Gardner and I am the Your Move champion for Hollywood Primary school for 2019. My husband Tom and I, along with the Hollywood Primary’s Parents and Citizens Association and teaching staff are excited to be involved in the Your Move program and hope to increase the use of active modes of transport at our school.

A key requirement to increasing the use of active modes of transport, in particular the use of bikes and scooters by our students, will be addressing the lack of suitable, secure and weather proof bike and scooter storage at our school. With an ever expanding large teaching hospital and private hospital situated on the school’s border, non-school related traffic and congestion is on the rise.

The Your Move program is seen as an opportunity for the school to reduce its traffic footprint in the neighbouring area while at the same time promoting the health benefits associated with active modes of transport.

Car access to the school during Term 2 is significantly impacted by the construction of a new roundabout by the local Council on the corner of the school grounds, increasing the opportunity and need to encourage alternative transport modes for journeys to and from the school.

We look forward to surveying parents from Hollywood Primary and obtaining their views on the school’s transport issues during Term 2, and will update you all on the results of this survey and the school’s plans to address these issues shortly.

Hollywood Ride2School Day 2019

This story is related to Run a special event at your school - Term 1

Hollywood Primary School held their annual Ride2School day on the 21st of March this year. There was a fantastic turn out of students who made their way to school on bikes of scooter rather than making the trip by car.

All students that travelled to school under their own steam were rewarded with a healthy and delicious breakfast provided by the Year 2 parents. Students were encouraged to decorate their bikes and scooters and a prize was given to the best decorated bike - a brand new 24 inch mountain bike donated by The Bicycle Entrepreneur in Nedlands. The events of the day were documented in the schools eNews newsletter and our website as shown below:
