Coding and Road Safety

In Pre-Primary as part of their coding unit they have been using Bee Bots (which are codable moving robots). They integrated their learning of road rules into this through designing roads for the Bee Bots to travel on.

They discussed ensuring the safety of the Bee Bot while on the road and as well as ensuring they created adequate safe crossing areas for humans.

It was a great way to review their prior learning of road rules into a hands-on practical experience.

The children got into groups and designed a road for their Bee Bots. They then went around and “inspected” if other’s roads had safe places for people to cross and that the roads were big enough that the Bee Bot wouldn’t drive on the sidewalk.

It looks like your have a new generation of traffic engineers in the making. Good to hear they are already thinking about pedestrians and cyclists.
