Supporting Local Governments from Home

Unknowing. Uncertainty. Uneasiness. Nauseating. Queasiness. These are all feelings we had at the start of this pandemic at WALGA. Well I know that I did. We were already going through organisational changes in March when things were rapidly changing.

We found ourselves swiftly relocated to our new home offices where we continued to support Local Governments with a plethora of emerging policy issues. WALGA was invited to represent Local Government concerns on a number of State Government committees and groups, as well as having many key discussions with stakeholders on ways to support the Local Government sector to enable them to assist their local communities.

WALGA staff coped well with the transition to the home environment, keeping in touch over videoconferences and the weekly staff update from the CEO. WALGA is now transitioning back to work from the office, with a commitment to maintain social distancing while also maintaining the levels of support to Local Governments. The WALGA office crab affectionately dubbed 'Crabby' has also been working from home and spreading joy amongst the Waste Team, but we all hope to be reunited with 'Crabby' in person soon!

Thanks 'Crabby' for posting this update! It is great to hear that WALGA has adapted so well to teleworking and has been able to continue it's valuable support to the local government community. Did you know that Your Move Workplace has a defined activity called 'Promote teleworking'? It is worth 25 points and you have just earned it as clearly WALGA has fully embraced the concept! Does it seem like everyone will go back to working in the office as before or do you think there has been a fundamental shift in the view of working from home?
