Walk Safely to School Day celebration ideas?

Hi there! We're just beginning our plan to get Willetton Primary moving (not in cars!) and looking to make a bit of a celebration on National Walk Safely to School Day. I would love to hear any ideas of what other primary schools are doing. Anyone doing a breakfast? I would love some healthy treat ideas?! Thanks!

Hi Tracey, Great to see you are preparing Walk Safely to School Day. Your school might like to consider an organised walk to school from a local park on the day, a lap-a-thon challenge on your school oval, a scavenger hunt challenge to encourage students to walk on the day (or across a week or whole month!) - see our resources section for this one. If you need some incentives, shoes pets are a popular one! Look forward to hearing more on your planning process!

Great to hear that you're already planning a special event! If other schools have some good advice and healthy treat options it would be good to share those. Don't forget to let us know how the event goes.

Welcome! Our Resources section has guides on how to do lots of activities and in class teaching and learning resources that are mapped to the WA Curriculum for teachers to use. In class activities that would complement your event may be the YM Footprint activity, YM Mapping my Way to School activity too. On events - there is a 'Park and Walk' resource and a guide to planning a YM event too. Let us know if you need anymore help or ideas!
