Your Move Leadership Lab Excursion 2024 - Day Two!

Tuesday the 28th of May was day two of the leadership lab! The day comprised of many marvellous, and crazy ideas to explore and streamline to implement one project that we could present and essentially execute at SPS. Our team worked cooperatively and were super creative to come up with several ideas of enhancing active travel and reduce car travel as well as to lower emissions, in a fun and radical way! It was wonderful to see the students work together to create posters, come up with ideas of how we can implement our ‘NO CAR ZONE’ and close the main road in front of the school for pedestrians only, for an hour, 8am to 9am! Occurring during the morning drop off. We aim to trial it for 3 weeks in Term 3 and then implement in Term 4!

For the presentations, the year 4s created a planning sheet, used several post-it notes to scribe ideas and extend on ideas, group them based on all the information collected over day one and then pitch their idea to a panel of experts! The wonderful panel consisted of Stacy from the Road Safety Commission, Helen from YM Team, Rohan O’Neill councillor from City of Joondalup and Lauren the. Project Coordinator (Act, Belong, Commit). We look forward to pitching to the initiative to Sarah Quantock and Admin at SPS, then to whole school if accepted. I am immensely proud of our SPS team! Next pitch idea to school, then next step we look at the whole process and start to commence the execution of this radical idea! Great effort team!!

It was incredible meeting all the various schools from the City of Joondalup and their teachers or parents involved in the Your Move and share stories of successes and future ideas.

Hi again Sandy. OK, now I know your plan! It all sounds great and I can't wait to hear how the trial goes and then the real thing in term 4. WA Bike Month is in October so hopefully having the street cleared of cars for that hour in the mornings will encourage sts to cycle. 40 points awarded for participating and presenting on the 2nd Lab day, 10 points for your detailed write-up. 🚲🚶‍♂️🛴🥰
