In Perth a new fun way to travel to school is taking off, the 'Bike bus'. What started as a parent lend initiative at Lathlain Primary School is turning into a popular trend with several bike buses taking place each week at schools across Perth.
A bike bus is essentially a group of parent and children who ride together along a designated route to school. These "buses" operate similarly to traditional public transport, with regular pick-up points and scheduled rides. Bike buses even have a designated leader or "driver" to keep the group organized and safe while navigating busy streets.
They offer a fun, sustainable way to travel to school whilst reducing cars on the road. They encourage kids to be more active, build their confidence and safety skills and importantly help students arrive at school ready to learn.
Let us know in the comments below if you've started a bike bus at your school, or if you are thinking about starting your own?

I am really keen to find out more about this. My Sister and BIL are part of their local bike bus in Glasgow (https://bicyclenetwork.com.au/newsroom/2022/09/06/glasgows-bike-bus/) and they needed special qualifications to supervise the bus, related to steering large groups of children on bikes and road safety. I am keen to do something similar at Beaconsfield but not sure what the requirements for supervisors are in Australia... We also have a lot of hills here at Beacy being up near the top of a hill, so I am also keen to hear from a successful bus that manages hills with lots of primary school kids!
