Your Move Star Cards
Star cards are a great incentive tool to use as part of an Active Travel Rewards Campaign. Star Cards are punched each time students walk or ride to school. Students can then be rewarded once their cards are full, or the cards used as raffle tickets, entries into a prize draw or a prize at the end of Term – it’s up to your school’s Your Move team! See below for some more incentive suggestions.
Star Cards should be punched on Regular Active Travel Days over a term and can also be allocate to students on days that you are promoting walking, riding, scooting, skating or taking public transport to school.
TIP - It’s a good idea to order a quantity of ‘Star cards’ that will cover enough students who you estimate will walk, scoot or ride on a special event day or a Regular Active Travel Day.
How to manage and use Star Cards
Store cards centrally in an A>Z index card box or attach to students school bags.
Your Move student, teacher or parent team members can clip Star Cards on random, regular or specially promoted days:
- by standing by the major school entrances or
- at an advertised location.
Ordering Star cards
Search for the Your Move Star Car pack of 50 on our Rewards shop.

Reward campaign incentive suggestions
Idea #1 – Honour board
You could add the names of all of the students who have completed a Star card within a term to a Your Move Team honour board.
Idea #2 – Redeem Star cards for cool stuff at school
Students could swap completed Star Cards for various things at school such as:
- Faction or house points
- Free or discounted item from canteen
- Ten minutes bonus recess
- Raffle prizes such as rewards from the Your Move website online shop
Idea #3 - Integrate with your school's existing rewards program
You could try integrating AT rewards with your school's existing rewards program (e.g. Dojos) on Regular Active Travel Day’s and award the points to students throughout the term.
Idea #4 - Raffle entries into a prize draw
You could add raffle tickets for those students who walk, ride, scoot or catch public transport into a prize draw throughout the term on Regular Active Travel Days, with a grand prize draw at the end of term.
Idea #5 – Morning Corners routine
Alternatively, classroom teachers could run a morning ‘corners’ routine each week where everybody heads to a nominated corner for walking, riding/scooting, or catching public transport. A card monitor can then punch star cards or provide raffle tickets to students who have used active transport.
Please Note: We have given examples of incentives that can be done over a term to ensure it is encouraging regular active travel. One off incentives and rewards on event days are great but are not scored in stories as an ‘Active Travel Reward Campaign’ unless its an ongoing campaign that is completed four (4) times per term.
