Background
With the completion of a new two-storey building housing 150 students from Kindergarten to Year 3, Scarborough Primary School identified a need for dedicated bike and scooter parking near the B-Block entrance on Deanmore Road. Existing infrastructure was either at capacity or inconveniently located for younger students, leading to bikes being stored in classrooms, flower beds and playgrounds.
Project Description
The project included:
• a new concrete slab and shelter roof
• reinstallation of existing bike and scooter racks, supplemented with additional racks
• strategic placement of the facility near B-Block to improve accessibility and visibility.
The shelter was installed during the July school holidays and unveiled at the start of Term 3, 2025. The infrastructure supports students, staff and families, and aligns with the school’s goal to increase active travel participation from 60% to 70%.
Outcomes
• Improved organisation and safety for bike and scooter storage.
• Increased convenience for younger students and their families.
• Enhanced school-wide culture of active travel and sustainability.
• Stronger engagement with Your Move initiatives
