See the Your Move Award winners from 2022 below. Please note that some of the categories have slightly changed for the 2024 awards.
School Achieve Award: Scarborough Primary School
Scarborough Primary School was awarded the School Achieve Award in 2022. The school achieved top leadership positions and double platinum accreditation status two years in a row. The school also implemented active travel days on Tuesdays and Thursdays, held national active travel events as well as ‘Father’s Day Fuel Free Friday’ and ‘Christmas dress up your ride event’. The school also delivered bike education annually, promoted Your Move through various channels and demonstrated strong school community commitment to the program.
School Innovate Award: Albany Primary School
Albany Primary School was awarded the School Innovate Award for the development of a mountain bike trail at their school, and associated bike activities. The bike trail was funded by a Your Move Connecting Schools Grant and local donations, and was constructed with tremendous assistance from local businesses, organisations and members of the community who pitched in their time and services. The school held a grand opening event to promote the trail and thank those who contributed to construction. Following the trail’s construction, students were informed the bike track would be opened at random lunch times, which motivated students to ride their bikes to school as often as possible. The school saw an immediate increase in the number of bikes parked at the school and a new social scene generated because of the trail.
Champion – School Team: Albany Primary School
Albany Primary School’s Your Move team, made up of 6-8 Year 5 students each semester, were awarded the Champion – School Team Award in 2022. The team served as role models in active transport and played a school leadership role. They met with the P&C Sustainability Committee, conduct Hands Up Surveys, presented at assemblies, assisted the PE teacher to collate resulted from active transport challenges, wrote newsletter articles, and supported events like ‘Ride and Walk to School’ days.
The school team was also involved in several other activities that went above and beyond ‘business as usual’, including identifying an opportunity to increase the number of students who catch the school bus and participating in a Your Move Leadership Lab.
School Champion Individual Award: Annita, Bramfield Park Primary School
Annita from Bramfield Park Primary School was awarded the School Champion – Individual Award in 2022. Annita is a dedicated Your Move leader who took an ‘active travel is for everyone’ approach to Your Move activities. She integrated the program into the school’s business plan and promoted Your Move through whole school communication channels, at P&C meetings and at school board meetings.
Annita set up a student leadership team who organised events for national ‘Ride and Walk to School’ days, ‘Fume Free Fridays’ and ‘Dress up your bike’ day. Annita included options for students who live too far away to walk or ride to school, ensuring all students were able to participate, and also generated activities relating to Your Move events to be completed in classrooms.
Workplace Achieve Award – Bethesda Health Care
Bethesda Health Care deliver a successful and inclusive fundraising cycling activity that raised $4,418 for children’s medical research. They also advocated for more bike parking at their workplace, celebrated World Bike Day and introduced a ‘Park and Stride’ initiative.
Workplace Champion Award - Lindi Harding and the Active Travel Committee at Bethesda Health Care
Lindi and the Active Travel Committee delivered outstanding work as active transport champions in the workplace by running active travel activities, promoting sustainable travel via work communication channels and organising social group rides around the river.
Perth Bike Network project: Kalamunda-High Wycombe Shared Path
The City of Kalamunda won the award for the Kalamunda-High Wycombe Shared Path.
Regional Bike Network project: Broome Conti Foreshore Shared Path
The Shire of Broome won the award for the Broome Conti Foreshore Shared Path, Stage 1 which included making the Jetty-to-Jetty trail and public art more accessible for all to enjoy.
