How to get the most Your Move points from your stories

We want you to get as much as possible out of Your Move this year, including maximising those Your Move points to cash in for items in the Rewards Shop and for eligibility for the Connecting Schools Grant

Our ‘Write a story’ page allows you to easily draft a story and add text, photos and video.

Sharing stories is central to being an active member of the Your Move community and is all about sharing what your school has been up to recently to promote and encourage active travel for the school trip. It also earns you points to spend on great items for your school!

Tips for writing better stories

  • Include lots of details of how you went about your event, competition, activity or initiative – this helps others learn from your experiences!
  • Add photos (and videos!) that show what you did – this can be of planning sessions, competition entries and all the action on the day.
  • Make sure you 'add any activities' that you completed.
  • Include reflections on the lessons you learnt along the way - what did and didn’t work.
  • Add your observations of any changes of travel culture e.g. stories or results and data.
  • Share anything you have created, such as action plans, lesson plans, art work or quiz questions.
  • Including innovative activities will earn bonus points

Adding activities

Please 'Add' only the activities you feel the story relates to. The Story Review Team will read your story and remove any activities that do not meet the 'Activity definitions'. You’re welcome to report on multiple and retrospective activities in one story, but points are only awarded for completed activities. Most activities can only be 'claimed' and rewarded with points once a Term.

Focus on active travel to school

Your Move points are awarded for activities related to active travel for the school trip. This includes walking, scooting, riding and using public transport to get to and from school.

Although it’s great to hear about all the ways you are helping students generally get active, those stories will be scored lower than others.

For example, it’s great to see and hear about schools offering Running Clubs but unfortunately, these stories won’t be scored as highly as they don’t directly relate to increased use of active travel for the trip to school. This year, we encourage you to look at ways to add in active travel elements to your Running Clubs - for example, you could encourage staff and students to do a ‘park and walk’ on the way to school before the session, or you could award extra kilometres for those who walk, ride or bus to school.
