Hot incentives for a cool Walk to School!

Walking through the beautiful parks and tall, historic pine trees which surround Kardinya Primary School is usually a reward all of its own... but on Friday 19 May, we added a little extra excitement to the mix.

Our Year Six Student Leaders, along with a few volunteer parents and students, awarded raffle tickets to anyone who chose active transport to get to school on Friday 19 May. While we were marking National Walk To School Safely Day, we also recognised those who cycled, scootered, or walked at least part of their way to school.

Purple isn't one of the official Kardinya Primary School colours, though we used the occasion to also raise funds and awareness for Epilepsy Action Australia. The organisation's signature colour is purple, and we delighted in seeing students and staff alike don their finest purple attire for the day, along with gold coin donations from all participants.

The raffle tickets were sorted by age group, and the EIGHT different prizes all reflected an active theme - an assortment of balls, frisbees, games and tickets to a local indoor play centre.

And now, with the coldest and rainiest part of the year upon us, we're ready to explore ways to keep active travel front of mind for our school community!
