City of Cockburn 2021 Pledge

I pledge to commit to posting a brief regular update on projects that I work on to help give staff, residents and visitors more travel choices to get around the City of Cockburn and help making Cockburn the best place to be.

We do so much during the year, but I need to take more time to share what we do and help encourage others to do the same in their area so we have more people on bicycles throughout Western Australia.

I organise various bike rides and encourage others to ride with me. We explore and activate the new paths that we have just constructed as well as identify missing links and areas that need improving. People on Bicycles assist me to run some bike rides too and I highly recommend that you join in and explore Cockburn - the best place to be.

By building more shared paths, improving connections to public transport and installing more bike racks the City helps to encourage more people to walk, cycle and catch public transport more often.

Recently we updated our Strategic Community Plan - setting out our vision, values, aspirations and priorities for the next ten years to make Cockburn the best place to be. Our community is central to everything we do so we asked them for help to shape this plan. We asked them what they believe Cockburn's priorities should be, what we should be focussing on, and any new or emerging issues we should be considering.

Moving around, improving public transport options, reducing traffic congestion, improving road safety and improving cycleways and footpaths were some common requests across the 2301 responses received for the Comment on Cockburn survey below.

We also receive many requests for new paths, path maintenance and upgrades from the community. We apply for many grants to help improve the bike and walk network. This keeps the engineering team busy, especially the traffic and transport team that I belong to.

Hi Jillian. Great to see you getting your pledge in just before the deadline - I knew you would come up with the goods! Yes, you are doing so much in Cockburn, it is a shame to think that sometimes we don't hear all the news. So I look forward to reading your regular updates (mmmm, regular, does that mean monthly?). You have earned 25 points for sharing this pledge. Great to see too active transport issues coming out in your Strategic Community Plan Review.
