Bike Bonanza at the THCK

The City of Stirling was proud to support the Bike Bonanza event held at the Tuart Hill Community Kindergarten, with 17 kids bringing their bikes, scooters and helmets.

The event started with the wonderful story of the ‘duck on a bike’ and also included some bike safety and bike maintenance training with Izzy the SDERA road safety mascot.

Special guests included the Hon Sabine Winton (Minister for Early Childhood Education; Child Protection; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services) and Hon David Michael (Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Ports; Road Safety; Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport), as well as our City of Stirling Councillor Teresa Olow (Osborne Ward) and Beverly Innes, the principal of the connected Tuart Hill Primary School. Hon David Michael even showed pictures of himself when he was a child at this very same kindergarten.

Outside, Izzy joined us at the Bike Shop station to help check the bikes and helmets.

The kids, together with their parents or caretakers, rode bikes to the Bike Bonanza stations along the path within the kindergarten premises. At these stations the kids picked up all they needed for the ride, including a ‘bike buddy’ (stuffed animal) as well as some popcorn, apples and water, sponsored by the City, which was all safely stored in a bag, handsewn by the a volunteer parent, and could be attached to the handlebars.

As looks are also important, there was a bike decoration station, providing spokey dokeys and streamers, also sponsored by the City.

After the training within the kindergarten premises, all kids were lined up for a ride down to nearby Grenville Reserve playground.

I had the honour to lead the group safely to the reserve, where the kids, together with their parents or caretakers, had a nice picnic.

A huge shout out to Jenny Cathy the wonderful kindergarten teachers, who organised and conducted this exciting and successful event!

It looks like the kindy and City of Stirling pulled out all the stops for this jam packed event at THCK 😆! Great to see so much support too from your elected member and MPs. You have earned 30 points for the City's support of this event and 20 for your engaging rundown of all that went on.
